Thermography

Thermography is an imaging method that makes infrared radiation (heat radiation) visible. This allows thermal irregularities in your photovoltaic system and other equipment to be detected and documented during operation—cost-effectively, quickly, precisely, and without contact.

The entire inspection can be carried out during normal operation, without incurring production downtime costs. In addition, thermography is an excellent method for assessing the energy efficiency of buildings. Heating and electricity costs can thus be sustainably reduced.

With a high-resolution infrared camera, we can detect the smallest temperature differences of less than 0.05°C, allowing us to draw conclusions about possible defects. Measurement data is evaluated by displaying the temperature distribution in color. A prerequisite for reliable fault detection is solid technical expertise in interpreting the image data.

Detection of Defects in Your Photovoltaic System

Errors and defects in photovoltaic systems can occur despite careful planning and installation. Hidden defects can cause long-term yield losses and further damage to the system, individual components, or the building structure.

If your system is performing well below expected yields, the cause should be identified as quickly as possible. Even minor malfunctions can significantly impair performance and lead to further damage—up to and including fires.

With thermography, the following defects can be detected, for example:

  • Module failure (including partial failures)
  • Faulty cabling, moisture ingress
  • Delamination
  • Cracks in the module
  • Defective bypass diodes

This inspection method has proven especially effective for large or hard-to-access generator fields.

After evaluating the measurements, we will discuss options with you for correcting the defects and initiate further actions. For expert reports, we are available to you as an experienced and certified partner.

Thermography for Determining the Energy Efficiency of a Building

To optimize the energy efficiency of a building or house, a holistic approach is required. The indoor climate can be negatively affected by poor insulation, inadequately sealed windows and doors, insufficient or defective sealed ducts, leaking pipes, or other installation issues in combination with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
In addition, we can detect penetrating water, identify subsurface moisture, and provide precise and reliable proof of dryness.

We provide you with a complete assessment of your building, helping you sustainably save costs!

Accreditation

Through our numerous national and international recognitions and certifications, you can be confident that our work meets high-quality standards, reflects the latest state of the art, and that our reports, attestations, and certificates enjoy excellent worldwide acceptance.

Since 2011, Kiwa Primara has been accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) in accordance with DIN EN 17025 and DIN EN 17065 to test and certify electrical equipment. In addition, we offer testing and certification under the IECEE CB Scheme procedure and are a recognized GS certification body.
