European Commission implements no-deal Contingency Action Plan
On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, the European Commission has announced fourteen emergency measures in the event of a no-deal scenario for Brexit. These precautionary measures are necessary to ensure that chaos and failures in a number of vital sectors, including aviation, customs and the financial world, are minimized as much as possible. If no agreement is reached (and a 'hard Brexit' occurs), current appointments between the EU and the UK will acutely be broken.
As there is still no certainty that there will be a ratified withdrawal agreement, or what it will entail, the EU is continuously preparing to try to ensure that the EU institutions, Member States and private parties are prepared for the UK's withdrawal. And in any event, even if an agreement is reached, the UK will no longer be a Member State after withdrawal and will no longer enjoy the same benefits as a member.
