New rules for the use of IT and remote audits – IAF MD4:2025 comes into effect
From the end of January 2026, new international rules will apply for using digital tools in audits (such as video calls or remote document reviews). These rules are part of an update of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) document MD4:2025, which ensures audits done remotely are secure and reliable.
What does this mean for you?
- If Kiwa uses ICT (Information and Communication Technology) during your audit, this must be agreed prior to the audit with us and you.
- Data security and confidentiality will be more strictly safeguarded.
- We will check your readiness for remote audits and include this in the audit plan.
Remote audits are not mandatory, but if used, they must follow these new rules. We’ll share more details in our updated information package coming in the beginning of 2026.
