Kiwa Integrates Scheme K23001 into TIC Scheme K21045 Fire Protection Systems
In 2020, Kiwa FSS initiated a process to consolidate all individual certification schemes for fire protection systems and products into one comprehensive scheme. This resulted in the TIC Scheme K21045 Fire Protection Systems. Kiwa has now begun integrating Scheme K23001 into TIC Scheme K21045. Below you will find what this means for K23001 certificates.
Across Europe, approaches to the qualification of fire protection systems and products vary significantly. To address this, Kiwa developed the TIC Scheme K21045 Fire Protection Systems—an internationally applicable certification scheme for testing, inspecting, and certifying fire protection systems. This TIC approach incorporates all relevant accreditation standards and integrates various qualification methods, providing the market with a uniform framework and a consistent quality mark for fire protection systems.
The primary goal of this integration is to offer the market a clearer overview of the possibilities regarding fire protection systems while enabling a more efficient and streamlined assessment process for both systems and products.
Transition from BRL K23001 to TIC Scheme K21045
The TIC scheme is accredited (according to EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012, registration number C002) for Scope E, which covers fire protection systems based on aerosol technology. This allows product certificates previously issued under certification scheme K23001 for aerosol fire extinguishing products to be transferred to TIC Scheme K21045 Fire Protection Systems. Kiwa is currently migrating these product certificates. This means that the existing product certificates will essentially retain the same content and value based on technical approval.
What does this mean for existing certificates?
- The technical content and value of existing product certificates remain unchanged.
- The front page of the certificate will continue to display the same company information.
- Product and system markings will be updated to reflect the new scheme.
- The new product certificate will receive a new certificate number.
- The new product certificate will reference the old certificate number for traceability of the certification period.
Information about this transition has been published on the product certification webpage for scheme K23001 to inform the market and your customers about this process.
In the coming period, we will keep certificate holders updated on the status of the transition process and provide updates via our news page.
