GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification

With GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, you demonstrate that products carrying a GLOBALG.A.P. claim or GGN label truly originate from certified farming and production processes. The CoC standard safeguards traceability, segregation and identification of GLOBALG.A.P. products throughout the entire supply chain, from farm to wholesaler, packer, distributor and retailer.

What is GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody?

GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody is an international standard that protects the integrity of the GLOBALG.A.P. claim. Companies that process, pack, label or trade products with a GLOBALG.A.P. identification number (such as a GGN or CoC number) must be able to demonstrate that these products genuinely come from certified sources.

A CoC certificate confirms that you:

  • Correctly identify and label GLOBALG.A.P.-certified products
  • Keep these products separate from non-certified product flows
  • Use a robust traceability system that provides fast and complete insight into product origin and product flows

Who is CoC certification mandatory for?

As of 1 January 2023, GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody certification is mandatory for traders, processors, shippers, distributors, packers and retailers who:

  • Process, pack or label loose, unpackaged products from GLOBALG.A.P.-certified production
  • Use a GLOBALG.A.P. identification number (GGN or CoC number)
  • Make a written origin claim to customers
  • Repack products or place them on the market under their own brand

Please note: Producers who sell only their own products under an IFA certificate do not need CoC certification.

Benefits of GLOBALG.A.P. CoC Certification

  • Transparent supply chain: full traceability from cultivation to final product
  • Faster response to incidents thanks to reliable traceability systems
  • Reduced risk of food fraud through strict identification and segregation
  • Access to demanding markets and customers that require CoC certification
