Cars

In 2021, according to the Dutch vehicle crime information center, sixteen percent fewer passenger cars were stolen than in 2020. Good car security has partly led to a decrease in the number of car thefts in recent years. Nevertheless, theft of cars and parts of cars is still very common.

Below you can read how you can reduce the risk of your car getting stolen, getting parts stolen from your car and how your car can be recovered after theft.

  • You can reduce the risk of car theft by securing your car with a 12-volt electronic certified protection (Class 1, Class 2 or Class 3) or approved mechanical protection (Immobiliser system).
  • You reduce the chance of a break-in with a certified alarm system. A distinction is made between alarm systems (Class 2) and alarm systems with slope detection (Class 3).
  • Over 45 percent of the cars stolen in 2021 were recovered. Passenger cars can, among other things, be recovered by using a certified detection system (Class TV, Class 4 or Class 5).
