Digi-Tags: Streamlining Asset safety and Data Management
Regular inspection of assets such as cranes or lifts are part of everyday safety management, as is ensuring that precision measurement devices are properly calibrated. In both cases, the question we often ask ourselves is: when was the last time this asset was inspected or his device calibrated?
Kiwa’s Digi-Tags offer a smarter way to manage these workflows. With a simple QR code scan, field technicians, safety managers, engineers, or third parties can instantly access up-to-date information, documents, and safety records saving time, reducing risk, and ensuring compliance. Each piece of equipment has its own unique tag containing a complete data archive, allowing field technicians, safety managers, engineers or third parties to review the device’s details and safety status in real time.
Faster, Smarter Access Across Borders
Digi-Tags started as a local initiative that is now commercially active across Belgium, Luxembourg, Finland and Norway, reinforcing its reputation as one of Kiwa’s fastest-scaling digital solutions. With over 500,000 assets already managed globally, customers can be confident in a solution that scales with their operations while maintaining strict cybersecurity and data integrity.
In 2025, Digi-Tags reached another key milestone by expanding from inspection management to support calibration activities as well. “Since joining the Digi-Tags roll-out in late 2023, we’ve onboarded three countries and seen first hand how the solution streamlines operations for our customers,” says Jaakko Tuukkanen, Kiwa’s Global Business Development and Key Account Manager. “Looking ahead to 2026, we aim to bring the benefits of Digi-Tags to even more regions, helping more organizations improve safety, efficiency, and compliance.”
Secure by design and trusted in high-security environments
This year Digi-Tags has enhanced security and improved the user experience with a decentralized login system. Customers can now manage access rights themselves, which is especially important for highly regulated industries in compliance with the EU’s NIS2 cybersecurity directive. This development strengthens Digi-Tags’ position as a reliable tool for critical sectors.
“Experiences from our global adoption send a powerful message: Digi-Tags meets the cybersecurity expectations of highly regulated, security-sensitive industries,” says Jaakko. “For customers, this means they can now access a trusted, secure solution locally, wherever they operate. At the same time, it demonstrates the commitment of our country organizations to bring Kiwa’s cutting-edge solutions closer to their markets."
With strong access controls, secure data handling, and rigorous traceability, Digi-Tags has proven itself capable of operating within top-grade requirements, and more than ready for mainstream industrial clients.
Customer Experiences Confirm the Benefits of Digi-Tags
Finnish crane operator training organization LHKK/Faktia Oy uses Digi-Tags to improve data management in their trainings. According to lecturer Tapani Hara, crane cabins are far from ideal for storing paper documents—they wrinkle, get wet, and disappear easily. With Digi-Tags, all information is securely stored and always accessible in digital form.
Hara has also uploaded crane training exercises into the system, so all teaching materials are available behind the same QR code. This eliminates the need for separate distribution, saving time and simplifying workflows.
"Digi-Tags allows us to include photos in documentation, making it immediately clear what the issue is. This enables faster response to faults and ensures they are reported promptly. Spare parts and maintenance are handled more quickly, improving safety and reducing costs"
