Target group: Manufacturers and users of aggregates, hydraulic construction stone and track ballast (e.g. gravel pits, quarries, asphalt and concrete plants).
The quality of aggregates and fillers is defined in the product standards EN 12620 (concrete), EN 13043 (asphalt), EN 13242 (unbound and hydraulically bound building materials) or EN 13383-1 (armour stone) depending on the field of application. For concrete, the requirements of the "Alkali Guideline" of the German Committee for Reinforced Concrete continue to apply to avoid a damaging alkali-silica reaction.
In the aggregates sector, Kiwa unites both accredited testing laboratories and a recognized testing center e.g. according to the German RAP Stra. In addition to inspection and certification services, the following tests, among others, are possible in the laboratories of Kiwa to test aggregates within the scope of internal monitoring as well as external controls:
- Testing the general properties of aggregates (e.g. sampling, sizing, petrographic description) according to EN 932
- Testing of the mechanical and physical properties (e.g. bulk density, true density, bulk density) of aggregates according to EN 1097
- Determination of resistance to freeze-thaw cycles according to EN 1367-1:2007
- Determination of the content of shotguns and opals according to DAfStb alkali guideline, Annex A: 2013
- Quick test method according to DAfStb Alkali Directive, Annex B.2:2013
- Concrete test with fog chamber storage according to DAfStb Alkali Guideline, Annex B.3:2013
- Determination of the chemical properties (e.g. chlorides, sulphates, sulphur, humus) of aggregates according to EN 1744:2006
- Resistance to wear and tear (Böhm washer DIN 52108:2010 and Micro-Deval EN 1097-1:2011)
- Testing of the geometrical properties of aggregates (e.g. particle size distribution, fines, particle shape) according to EN 933:2012
- Tests according to German TL Gestein
- Grading of filler (air jet sieving) according to EN 933-10:2009
- Determination of the bulk density of filler pycnometer methods according to EN 1097-7:2008
- Cooking test for sunburn basalt according to EN 1367-3:2001
- Testing of aggregates for track ballast according to EN 13450:2002
- Test method for armourstone according to EN 13383-2:2007 and German TL W
