Impact Sound Measurement According to DIN EN 16205 – Including RWS Rating

In our testing laboratory, we conduct measurements to evaluate the impact sound of floor coverings in accordance with the DIN EN 16205 standard. This involves measuring how loud the sound is that is perceived when walking on a floor covering in the same room—that is, the so-called impact sound performance.

The test is conducted on a solid, covered floor. The standard impact hammer system simulates walking on the floor to ensure comparable results.

Our measurements include:

  • Recording the walking sound level at frequencies from 50 to 5,000 Hz
  • Calculation of the A-weighted walking sound level Ln,walk,A
  • Additionally, determination of the Radiated Walking Sound (RWS) according to Annex E of the standard—a parameter that better reflects subjective auditory perception and also evaluates sound quality
