EN 50518 certification for Sintal; two certified centres as a distinguishing factor

Kiwa Fire Safety & Security (Kiwa FSS) recently carried out the periodic audit at Sintal, Slovenia’s largest security company with an alarm receiving centre, within the framework of the European standard EN 50518 for Monitoring and Alarm Receiving Centres (MARC). The audit confirms that Sintal meets the stringent requirements set by this standard for alarm centres. Sintal distinguishes itself through two physically separated and fully certified alarm receiving centres.

The audit was conducted by Lead Auditor Muharrem Kocabiyik and included a comprehensive assessment of, among other things, operational processes, IT support, physical security, emergency provisions, and business continuity. Based on this assessment, Muharrem concludes that Sintal ensures a high level of professionalism and reliability in its service delivery.

EN 50518 Monitoring and Alarm Receiving Centres as a quality framework
The EN 50518 standard for Monitoring and Alarm Receiving Centres provides an important European framework for alarm centres and sets stringent requirements for infrastructure, physical security, organisational and operational processes, response times, redundancy, and service continuity. Certification according to this standard provides clients and end users with the assurance that services are delivered in accordance with standardised, controlled, and proven processes.

Two certified centres as a distinguishing factor

A key element highlighted during the audit is Sintal’s infrastructure. The company operates two physically separated and fully certified alarm receiving centres, both capable of operating simultaneously.

‘This setup provides full redundancy in the event of a failure at one location, enhances operational resilience, and improves service continuity. This configuration is considered a clear added value,’ says Muharrem.

The processes, infrastructure, and working methods align with what is considered best practice within the sector. This is particularly relevant in a market where customers are placing increasingly high demands on system reliability, service continuity, and integrated security solutions.

Audit as a tool for continuous improvement

The annual EN 50518 audit is not only seen by Sintal as an assessment moment, but also as an important tool for continuous quality improvement, with a demonstrable focus on reliability and continuity.
The security industry is evolving rapidly. The focus is shifting from traditional physical security to information security, cyber resilience, data protection, and the integration of systems into central management platforms.

‘Sintal demonstrates active investment in technology, processes, and people to continue meeting the evolving requirements of the security sector, where topics such as cyber resilience, data protection, and system integration are becoming increasingly important’, says Muharrem.

Kiwa concludes that Sintal, with its certified alarm receiving centres, complies with the requirements of the EN 50518 MARC standard and positions itself as a reliable and professionally operating organisation within the European security market. The combination of demonstrably strong operational processes, redundant infrastructure, and continuous availability provides a solid foundation for further growth and development.

Kiwa's Lead Auditor, Muharrem Kocabiyik, conducts the audit in collaboration with Boštjan Kurmanšek, Igor Rot, Martina Ponikvar Koglot, Nikola Perović and Robert Klavs from Sintal.
