BRL-K910/01 Leak detection systems

Leak detection systems can be used as an extra safety precaution on double-walled tanks and pipes in which soil-harming liquids are stored or transported. The leak detection systems can be applied to both underground and above ground installations. Both overpressure and underpressure leak detection systems are part of Evaluation Guideline BRL-K910.
Evaluation Guideline BRL-K910 is intended for leak detection systems which detect leaks below and above the liquid level of a double-walled tank and thus meet the highest class (Class 1) of NEN-EN 13160-1. Specific requirements for Class 1 leak detection systems are specified in NEN-EN 13160-2 "Pressure and vacuum systems". In addition to the functional requirements from the NEN-EN 13160-1 and NEN-EN 13160-2, Evaluation Guideline BRL-K910 includes requirements for the installation and maintenance of leak detection systems.
Liquid leak detection systems for tanks are not part of this Evaluation Guideline.

For whom?

For suppliers and producers of leak detection systems and (tank) installation companies.

When is it necessary?

Evaluation Guideline BRL-K910 is intended for leak detection systems used in underground and above ground double-walled tanks and pipes with flammable and non-flammable liquids, which in most cases are harmful to water and soil. If required, these pipes are installed by an installation company that is certified in accordance with Evaluation Guideline BRL SIKB 7800/BRL-K903 "Tank installations". Underground tanks located in a groundwater protection area must always be equipped with a leak detection system in accordance with Evaluation Guideline BRL-K910.
