Roads and highways
The quality of a country’s road network is a reflection of its prosperity. Roads are indispensable for our economic and social interactions. Road users must be confident that they can use the roads without obstruction, comfortably, and safely. The road infrastructure must enable the undamaged transport of goods within a reasonable timeframe. Because roads, especially in the Netherlands, are often located in areas with dense development, the inconvenience caused by the road to nearby residents must be kept to a minimum.
The road authority has the important task of maintaining the road network. To do so, it needs, among other things, a road network that strikes a balance between desired performance, costs, and environmental impact.
