Transportation Projects

From the start of the company, Kiwa T2 has focused on transportation projects. We’ve provided comprehensive utility engineering services for thousands of highway and road projects for more than 35 DOTs, municipal, and provincial agencies. Our Subsurface Utility Engineering, Utility Coordination, and Surveying services have added value for major urban transit projects, as well as airports, ports, tunnels, and bridges across the US and Canada. In addition, we have extensive experience managing utility risk for Design-Build transportation projects.

Kiwa T2 is the utility coordination lead on the Owner’s Consultant team, led by AECOM, for the City of Edmonton.

Water & Wastewater Projects

Municipalities and water districts engage Kiwa T2 for assistance with utility risk analysis and CCTV investigations. Our services help mitigate schedule delays and cost overruns due to existing utilities that weren't properly identified or accounted for in planning. We have supported hundreds of municipalities with their water infrastructure and facility improvement projects, including

Toronto Basement Flooding Protection Program

To help reduce the risk of flooding, the City of Toronto established a multi-year program to improve to the sewer system and overland drainage routes across the City. In 2012, the City of Toronto, requested that the lead design engineering firms retain Kiwa T2 to provide Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services based on the quality of our previous SUE work for the City.

Coordinated Toronto Water and Transportation Services Program PM6

The City of Toronto Transportation Services and Toronto Water Divisions have a long-standing relationship with Kiwa T2 team to support their mandate to keep municipal infrastructure in a state of good repair. Projects include construction of new facilities and upgrade or replacement of water mains, sewers, roadways, laneways, and sidewalks, as well as other civil design.

Hamilton Wastewater Treatment Plant

Kiwa T2, completed a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigation for the City of Hamilton in October 2016. The project involved a major upgrade to the Woodward Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant in the City of Hamilton. The purpose of the investigation was to locate the key utilities within the project limits.

Parliament Hill East Block Rehabilitation

Port Hope Area Initiative

Kiwa T2, as part of the team working for the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI), completed a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigation on 152 sites in Port Hope.

Emerald Park Development

Greenland retained Kiwa T2 to complete a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigation to determine the precise location of buried subsurface utilities prior to construction of a new condominium development on Yonge Street in North York. The investigation involved records request circulation, SUE mapping and locating, CCTV sewer inspections, invert investigations.

Utility & Energy Projects

Utility and energy clients require very reliable subsurface utility information as well as required metrics and on-site safety procedures to ensure public safety. Kiwa T2 has the experience that utility and energy/pipeline companies trust. We are registered with IS Networld.

Enbridge Highway 7 Gasmain

Kiwa T2 completed a 3.2 km SUE investigation for Enbridge on Highway 7, helping identify utility conflicts early and avoid construction delays.

Alternative Delivery Projects

Effectively managing, pricing, and allocating utility risk for Alternative Delivery projects is central to project scheduling and cost. Kiwa T2 professionals specialize in SUE, UC, and surveying services and have proven processes to identify, mitigate and manage the risks associated with existing utilities. Owners and developers of all types of design-build projects have benefitted from having Kiwa T2 handle utility risk analysis and management as part of the Alternative Delivery team.

Metrolinx - Barrie Rail Corridor

Kiwa T2 completed a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigation for this design-build project in accordance with CI/ASCE Standard 38-02, for Hatch Ltd. (Hatch).

Metrolinx - Finch LRT

Kiwa T2 in conjunction with AECOM were selected by Metrolinx to provide technical advisory services on the Finch West LRT design-build project. Kiwa T2 led the Private Utility Team for the Finch West Light Rail Transit (FWLRT).

Metrolinx - Eglinton Crosstown LRT

Kiwa T2 was hired by Transit City/AECOM to complete a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigation on the entire stretch of the ECLRT line from Bicknell Drive to Avenue Road in Toronto. This design-build project included stations at Keele, Caledonia, Dufferin, Oakwood, Bathurst, Chaplin and Avenue Road.
