BRL-K21006/02 PE/GRP sumps for underground fuel storage tanks, manifold chambers and dispenser sumps

At petrol stations and in a lot of other cases (bio)fuels are stored in underground storage tanks. These tanks require to be inspected periodically. In order to facilitate inspection the access to the tanks, pump dispensers and pipe manifolds is made easier by using sumps and chambers. BRL-K21006 gives the requirements for polyethylene (PE) or glass reinforced polyester (GRP) sumps and chambers which enable the easy installation of the piping system. These sumps and chambers are resistant to all (bio)fuels.

For whom?

Installers of above ground storage facilities for liquid fuels and lubricants.

When is it necessary?

Companies covered by the Activities Decree (Activiteitenbesluit = BARIM) are legally required to have their fuel storage installation to be installed by an installer certified in accordance with BRL SIKB 7800/BRL-K903. In order to facilitate inspection the access to the tanks, pump dispensers and pipe manifolds is made easier by using sumps and chambers. Certified installers must submit an approved RI&E (Risk Inventory & Evaluation) before a certificate in accordance with BRL SIKB 7800/BRL-K903 can be issued. The sumps for the  underground storage tanks and pump dispensers and manifold chambers required for the transport of (bio)liquid fuels will be part of this RI&E.

The RI&E of each installation can be streamlined when use is made of certified components. In such cases, the RI&E aspects related to the certified products, are not required. Sumps for the underground storage tanks and pump dispensers and manifold chambers, manufactured according to the requirements of BRL-K21006, will be in accordance with the requirements of BRL SIKB 7800/BRL-K903.
