Kiwa supports its clients by providing technical and economic information, crucial for defining strategies for maintenance, rehabilitation, and asset replacement. Its inspection team uses advanced Non-Destructive Testing and monitoring techniques to evaluate the structural condition and detailed characterization of the materials.

Foundations & Industrial Structures

There are several types of industrial structures made of concrete, operating in environments of great adversity, and being fundamental in any industry.

Kiwa inspection team uses advanced technologies of non-destructive testing and assisted inspection techniques, such as rope access, to assess the structural condition and to develop detailed materials’ characterization. These tools enable Kiwa to manage and extend the asset useful life. Kiwa also provides support to its clients in the definition of the best maintenance and rehabilitation strategies.

Chimneys & Cooling Towers

Chimneys and cooling towers act as heat devices, employed to transfer the processes’ waste heat to the atmosphere. During this process, highly corrosive gases and vapours that may compromise the entire structure are released. These assets, still, operate under extreme conditions, and ambient temperatures, being vulnerable to additional loads imposed by the wind and the installations’ operating temperatures.

Fireproofing Protections

As equipment and structures are exposed to fire, it becomes crucial to ensure their ability to maintain the structural integrity and the operation of essential protection systems. Although their main aim is to ensure compliance with these requirements, acting passively (PFP), fireproofing protections may also represent a potential cause of damage, since, the accumulation of water on the surface of metallic materials (subject of protection), can cause corrosion under fireproofing (CUF).

Kiwa applies risk-based inspection methods and advanced non-destructive testing technology in the fireproof protections’ assessment, avoiding the collapse of equipment due to failures in protecting and ensuring the monitoring of corrosion under fireproofing (CUF).
