The answer fully depends on the application of your product of component. Your customer decides where he uses your product. With an ATEX certificate you enlarge the areas where your product can be applied. Finally your Marketing & Sales department should be able to explain if an ATEX Certification is commercially feasible.   

Your customer is decisive. The industry divides their plants into zones, which determines which product can be used in which area. Before you start an ATEX certification, you should know where your product is used and which zone is applicable in general.  

This question is similar to: How much costs a new car? We only can indicate the costs involved based on a concrete product with the classification your product needs. The best you can do is to request for a quotation, and if you know what you need, you can directly fill in the form Request for Quotation and send it to exvision@kiwa.nl.

The time involved with a certification project highly depends on the experience you have. Are you in the position to send a complete set of documentation with a test sample, then Kiwa ExVision should be able to finalize your project within three months. Delivery times are mentioned in our quotations. You get a time and test schedule of your project. Delays are normally caused by an incomplete set of documentation or non conformity of the product involved.. 

For sure, and probably faster then you are used to! We work together with the Canadian QPS which can certify against UL and CSA standards. All the work can be performed by Kiwa in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. You just have one single project and contact person at Kiwa ExVision, including North America approvals. Standards are published by normalisation institutes, like the NEN in The Netherlands. You can order standards at the webshop of the NEN. But most countries have their own national normalisation institute where you can buy standards. There are copyrights on these standards, so Kiwa ExVision can not deliver such documents.

Most of the information of the EU is free of copyrights and can be downloaded directly. You can directly download the ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU)

A Notified Body like Kiwa ExVision cannot give any concrete advice on design or adjustments on your product to meet the requirements. This is forbidden, especially if the certification is also perfomed by Kiwa ExVision. Secondly, we don't want to give any design advice because innovative solutions of all our customers is confidential. We don't sell design knowledge at all. If necessary we can provide you with suggestions where you can get this kind of advice. But, what we can do is give you instructions based on information you could find in any library. We can explain what the exact requirements are and if applicable, which aspect is not in conformity with which specific requirement.
