Training Inspector or Quality Assurance Employee Fruit and Vegetables

Expertise is required for expert assessment of the quality of fresh fruit and vegetables. Affinity with the fresh produce sector and products and a thorough knowledge of it are the most important tools of any inspector, quality controller or fresh produce quality assurance employee. Practical information

As a (novice) inspector or quality controller, you can increase your knowledge at Kiwa AQS with an industry-recognized training to become an inspector or employee quality assurance fruit and vegetables. Kiwa AQS has been designated by the Dutch sector organization 'Handel Groeit' as the official trainer for this recognized training.

The course is made up of product (P) and general (A) modules. The product and general modules can also be taken separately. Upon successful completion of a module, the student will receive a certificate.

The product modules cover a large number of aspects, such as cultivation methods, harvesting and packaging, storage conditions, trade flows and quality standards. The focus is of course on recognizing and acknowledging common diseases and (quality) defects in products.

The practical testing of the products is an important part of the product modules and can be directly applied in practice. The highly informative company visits, at cultivation companies, trading companies or sorting and packing stations, are an integral part of every product module.

Trainers with practical experience

The trainers of Kiwa AQS have a wealth of practical experience and have been active for many years as fruit and vegetable inspectors or quality controllers. As a result, they not only have a great deal of knowledge of the products, but they also know better than anyone what happens in the various links of the fruit and vegetable chain. We share this knowledge with other fresh produce professionals through coaching, training and education.

  • P6: Endive, bok choy, spinach, lettuce (all types), chicory and celery
    In the inspector module P6 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about endive, bok choy, spinach, lettuce (all types), chicory and celery.   • P7: Leek, asparagus, rhubarb and beans

  • P8: Head cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage and kale

  • P12 Soft fruit (strawberry, small woody fruit, cherry)
    In the inspector module P12 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about soft fruit such as strawberries and cherries.   • P13: Peach, nectarine, plum, apricot, avocado
    In the inspector module P13 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots and avocados.   • P14: Citrus fruit: (lemon, grapefruit, orange, etc.)
    In the inspector module P14 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about citrus fruit such as grapefruit and oranges.   • P15: Banana, grape, melon, kiwi
    In the inspector module P15 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about bananas, grapes, melons and kiwis.   • P16: Exotics (pineapple, pomegranate, lychee, mango, etc.)
    In the inspector module P16 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about pineapple, pomegranate, lychee, mango and other exotics. This course will discuss, among other things: production and trade flows, cultivation methods and storage conditions. Products are also inspected in practice and company visits take place.
  • P17: Potatoes
    In the inspector module P17 you will acquire all practical and theoretical knowledge about potatoes. This course will discuss, among other things: production and trade flows, cultivation methods and storage conditions. Products are also inspected in practice and company visits take place.
  • P18: Sprouts, herbs and cresses
    In the inspector module P18 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about sprouts, herbs and cresses. This course will discuss, among other things: production and trade flows, cultivation methods and storage conditions. Products are also inspected in practice and company visits take place.
  • P20: Mushrooms (champignon, oyster mushroom, shiitake)
    In the inspector module P20 you will gain all practical and theoretical knowledge about mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms and other mushrooms. This course will discuss, among other things: production and trade flows, cultivation methods and storage conditions. Products are also inspected in practice and company visits take place.
  • A1/A4: Communication, coaching and collaboration
    In your daily work as a fruit and vegetable inspector or quality employee, you are constantly dealing with people. Whether you work together or manage colleagues or visit customers. Good skills in the field of communication, coaching and cooperation will certainly come in handy here. You can develop these skills during the judges module A1/A4.
  • A2: Fresh produce chain
    In the inspectors module A2 you will learn everything about the Dutch fresh produce chain. This course will cover, among other things: the importance and functions of the various links in the fresh produce chain, relevant organizations in the fresh produce chain and current developments in the sector.
  • A3: Quality assurance and (control) organizations
    In the inspector module A3 you will learn everything about quality assurance in the fruit and vegetable sector and about the organizations involved in this. The course will cover, among other things: inspection bodies such as NVWA and KCB, public and private law regulations in the Netherlands, the EU as a market-oriented organization, the increasing importance of quality, quality assurance and HACCP, general concepts of quality assurance with inspection registration systems, audits, quality assurance, certification, integrated chain care, phytosanitary requirements and the administrative procedures for the inspection and rejection of batches.
  • A5: Logistics and storage
    In the inspector module A5 you will learn everything about the logistics and storage aspects of fruit and vegetable products. The following topics will be covered during the course: the various ins & outs of agro-logistics, the cooling and storage of fruit and vegetable products, traceability, labeling and recall and packaging.
