Kiwa first accredited certification body for UBA guidelines in Germany

Since 20 December 2019, Kiwa is the first accredited certification body in Germany to confirm the suitability of products for drinking water hygiene.

In March 2019, Germany’s Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, or UBA) published recommendations on the confirmation of the suitability of products for drinking water hygiene. This is a new certification procedure for products in contact with drinking water. Kiwa Germany will be able to issue confirmations for individual or combined products. This is a completely new procedure in Germany for all products in contact with drinking water, which offers Kiwa a unique selling point.

Quality transparency

Depending on the type of product, companies are subject to two different types of confirmation. The first type is based on System 1+, analogous to the CE certification for construction products. The second type describes a sampling with a type test. Both confirmations create transparency through an accredited body, which is in the interest of all consumers.

First accredited certification body

After a very long accreditation process lasting almost two years, Kiwa Germany is now the first accredited certification body for this area in Germany. A full team will carry out the certification procedures for customers together with the inspectors' Expert Group Drinking Water Hygiene and the test laboratory in Kessin (near Rostock) and Brandenburg.
