New version BRCGS Food Safety to be released in August 2022

The well-known BRCGS Food Safety Standard helps food manufacturers focus on a wide range of areas including HACCP, traceability, food fraud prevention, management commitment, and food safety culture. A revision of the standard is underway with the new Issue 9 due to be launched in August 2022. Are you already prepared to meet the renewed requirements?

The BRCGS Food Safety Standard is a leading global brand recognized by thousands of customers worldwide and was also the first Food Safety Standard to be benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). It is designed to protect the consumer, and ensure that manufacturers and suppliers involved in the food chain meet their obligations. Kiwa can help you to get BCRGS certified.

What can be expected in the new BRCGS Food Safety 9.0?

With the revision in sight, a few things will change during the certification trajectory. However the exact changes of the new BRCGS Food Safety 9.0 will be available after publication. The draft version makes us expect the following changes:

  • Anticipation on the new GFSI recognition criteria
  • The topic food safety culture is more elaborated
  • More requirements regarding validation of HACCP plans
  • Control of equipment is described in more detail

After public consultation the publication will be finalized. The expectation is that Issue 9 will be published in August 2022 and from that point on the transition period starts. The certification against issue 9 will commence in audits as from 1 February 2023.

What does that mean to you?

From that moment on, you must therefore meet the newly established requirements in order to be able to keep your BRCGS certificate. Make sure you keep a close eye on the website of the BRCGS to stay up to date on the latest state of affairs, because the requirements from Issue 9 will ask from some new and extra preparations from your side.
